WHEREAS ANY PATIENT, ANY I'M SORRY, ANY YOUR PATRON ACTUALLY IDENTIFY THEMSELVES AND YOU CAN TAKE 3 MINUTES AND SHARE ANYTHING THAT IS FOR THE GOOD OF THE CAUSE OF OUR MEETING TONIGHT YOU MAY DO SO.

GOOD EVENING. WONDERFUL TO SEE YOU ALL AGAIN.

WE'VE HAD A REALLY GREAT WEEK HERE IN PIKE.

AS SOME OF YOU MAY BE AWARE, OUR EIGHTH GRADE GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM AT GUION CREEK MIDDLE SCHOOL ARE THE MARION COUNTY MIDDLE SCHOOL CHAMPIONS [APPLAUSE].

THIS GROUP OF ATHLETES IS CURRENTLY 13 AND 0 ON THIS SEASON.

WHAT'S EVEN MORE REMARKABLE IS THEY WERE THE SEVENTH GRADE MARION COUNTY CHAMPIONS LAST YEAR AND HAD AN UNDEFEATED SEASON.

SO THEY ARE INCREDIBLY TALENTED AND JUST DOING AN AMAZING JOB AND WE ARE SO EXCITED TO CELEBRATE THEM.

PRIOR TO THE MEETING TONIGHT, I HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO ATTEND THE DISTRICT SCIENCE FAIR, WHICH WAS HOSTED OVER AT PIKE HIGH SCHOOL IN THE CAFETERIA, AND WE HAD PHENOMENAL PROJECTS FROM OUR MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS AT GUION CREEK MIDDLE SCHOOL, LINCOLN MIDDLE SCHOOL AND NEW AUGUSTA NORTH.

WE POSTED A LOT ABOUT THAT ON TWITTER AND WE'LL BE SHARING MORE IN THE FUTURE.

WE'RE REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THAT.

AND THEN JUST TO KEEP THINGS INTERESTING, I HAVE A SPECIAL GUEST THIS EVENING THAT'S GOING TO SPEAK TO YOU BRIEFLY.

HER NAME IS MRS. KRISTA ANTHONY.

SHE IS CURRENTLY OUR WORK BASED LEARNING COORDINATOR AT PIKE HIGH SCHOOL.

PRIOR TO THAT, SHE WAS A TEACHER IN THE BUSINESS OFFICE FOR SEVERAL YEARS AND ALSO A SPONSOR OF OUR AWARD WINNING PIKE HIGH SCHOOL BUSINESS PROFESSIONALS OF AMERICA.

DR. YOUNG, AS SARAH SAID, MY NAME IS KRISTA ANTHONY.

AND AFTER TEACHING BUSINESS MANAGEMENT AND HUMAN RESOURCES FOR ALMOST 25 YEARS AT PIKE HIGH SCHOOL, I AM NOW THE NEW WORK BASED LEARNING COORDINATOR.

SO I WANTED TO KIND OF SHARE A LITTLE BIT OF INFORMATION ABOUT OUR PROGRAM WITH YOU AND SOME OF MY THINGS THAT I'VE BEEN TASKED WITH MOVING FORWARD.

SO WE'RE LOOKING AT REDESIGNING AND REIMAGINING WHAT WORK BASED LEARNING LOOKS LIKE, BOTH FOR OUR STUDENTS AS WELL AS OUR BUSINESS PARTNERS. MY GOAL IS GOING TO BE TO PERIODICALLY COME BEFORE YOU AND KIND OF SHARE SOME OF THE POSITIVE IMPACTS THAT WE'RE HAVING ON OUR LOCAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT.

TONIGHT, HOWEVER, I WANT TO JUST TAKE A FEW MINUTES TO GIVE YOU A BRIEF OVERVIEW ABOUT WHAT WE'RE BASED LEARNING IS AND WHAT THAT LOOKS LIKE.

SO WORK BASED LEARNING OR WBL, AS IT'S COMMONLY REFERRED, HAS BEEN IN EXISTENCE AT PIKE HIGH SCHOOL FOR DECADES.

COMMONLY, WE WOULD HEAR OF IT AS BEING CALLED CO OP.

TODAY WE SEE ANYTHING FROM APPRENTICESHIPS, INTERNSHIPS, ANY SUSTAINED MEANINGFUL ON THE JOB EDUCATION IS CONSIDERED PART OF THE WBL OR WORK BASED LEARNING UMBRELLA.

OVER THE YEARS OUR PROGRAMS HAD LOTS OF CHANGES.

IT'S FLUCTUATED IN ENROLLMENT, BUT IT HAS ALWAYS PROVIDED OUR STUDENTS THE OPPORTUNITY TO LEAVE SCHOOL EARLY, GO TO WORK WHILE STILL EARNING CREDITS.

WITH THE CREATION OF OUR NEW GRADUATION PATHWAYS HOW IMPLEMENTING HOW WORK BASED LEARNING IS IMPLEMENTED HAS HAD TO KIND OF CHANGE.

HENCE THE REVAMP OF THE COORDINATOR POSITION AND MY PLACE IN THAT.

SO WE'RE SEEING NOW STUDENTS WHO ARE MORE INTENTIONALLY PLACED IN THEIR WORK BASED LEARNING EXPERIENCES. PREVIOUSLY WE MAY HAVE A STUDENT WHO WOULD LEAVE SCHOOL EARLY, GO TO MCDONALD'S AND GO TO WORK.

NOW WE MIGHT SEE A STUDENT WHO HAS COMPLETED THEIR BUSINESS MANAGEMENT PATHWAY STILL LEAVES SCHOOL EARLY, STILL GOES TO

MCDONALD'S TO GO TO WORK, BUT IS INVOLVED IN SOME MANAGEMENT TRAINING OR IS WORKING WITH THEIR SUPERVISOR TO CREATE THEIR EMPLOYEE SCHEDULE FOR THEIR STORE OR LEARNING ABOUT BEST PRACTICES AND HIRING.

SO ALL OF OUR STUDENTS NOW ARE WORKING VERY CLOSELY WITH EXPERTS IN THEIR FIELD WHO ARE REALLY FURTHERING THEIR EDUCATION AND HELPING THEM LEARN BOTH THE TECHNICAL AS WELL AS THOSE EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS ARE GOING TO HELP THEM IN THE FUTURE.

WE WE HAVE STUDENTS WHO ARE AT PIKE HIGH SCHOOL AND AT THE CAREER CENTER WHO ARE ELIGIBLE FOR WORK BASED LEARNING IF THEY HAVE AT LEAST A 2.5 GPA OR IF THEY HAVE COMPLETED THE COURSEWORK REQUIRED FOR THEIR GRADUATION PATHWAY.

SO THEY'RE GETTING THE FOUNDATION DURING THEIR CLASS TIME, AND THEN NOW THEY'RE BEING ABLE TO APPLY THAT KNOWLEDGE AS THEY GO OUT INTO THE WORKFORCE.

THEY CAN BE RELEASED FOR UP TO THREE PERIODS A DAY, EARNING 1 TO 3 CREDITS DURING THAT TIME, EITHER IN THE MORNING OR IN THE AFTERNOON.

STUDENTS ARE WORKING THIS YEAR ON AVERAGE, ABOUT 15 HOURS A WEEK AND ARE EARNING AGAIN AVERAGE $14 AN HOUR THIS YEAR.

OUR BUSINESS PARTNERS ARE EMPLOYING STUDENTS REALLY IN ALL OF OUR AREAS BUSINESS AND MARKETING, MANUFACTURING, LOGISTICS, HEALTH SCIENCE, HVAC, HOSPITALITY, COSMETOLOGY, HUMAN AND SOCIAL SERVICES.

AND THE SUBSET OF THOSE LISTS REALLY GOES A LOT LONGER.

WE ARE WE'RE SEEING THAT THE STATE OF INDIANA AND OUR LAWMAKERS ARE REALLY PUTTING AN EMPHASIS ON WORK BASED LEARNING THROUGH BOTH THE PERFORMANCE OF OUR CAREER CENTER, AS WELL AS PART OF THE NEW SCHOOL GRADING SYSTEM MOVING FORWARD.

SO WE ARE FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO KIND OF BE ON THE FOREFRONT OF THIS ENDEAVOR.

WE ALREADY HAVE, STARTING THIS YEAR ABOUT 20 OF OUR CTE STUDENTS WHO ARE PARTICIPATING IN A WORK BASED LEARNING EXPERIENCE. AND THIS YEAR I'VE BEEN ABLE TO GROW OUR BUSINESS PARTNERSHIPS BY ABOUT 40% FOR NEW PARTNERS WHO HAVE SIGNED ON TO WORK WITH OUR STUDENTS FOR NEXT SCHOOL YEAR.

WE WE REALLY RECOGNIZE AND CELEBRATE THE FACT THAT OUR STUDENTS ARE SKILLED AND CAPABLE INDIVIDUALS TO BE OUT THERE IN THE WORKFORCE.

AND THEY CAN REALLY BE A TREMENDOUS NEW TALENT PIPELINE FOR OUR BUSINESS PARTNERS.

AND WE CELEBRATE THAT ASPECT DAY IN AND DAY OUT WITH BOTH OUR STUDENTS AS WELL AS THOSE BUSINESSES WHERE THEY'RE WORKING.

SO TOGETHER WE REALLY ARE HOPING TO HAVE THAT POSITIVE IMPACT ON OUR WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT AND WORKING TOGETHER WITH THOSE BUSINESS PARTNERS IN OUR LOCAL COMMUNITY SO THAT WE CAN HAVE THIS DISTRICT THAT CONTINUES TO BE A STRONG, VITAL PLACE TO LIVE, WORK AND GO TO SCHOOL.

MY JOURNEY THROUGH THE DISTRICT.

I WAS AT COLLEGE PARK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AND SINCE HE LED.

I'M GOING TO GO AHEAD AND PUT HIM ON THE SPOT.

NOT DR. YOUNG AT THE TIME, AND HE WAS MY FIFTH GRADE TEACHER.

OKAY [APPLAUSE]. AND I ACTUALLY HAVE A STORY TO SHARE ABOUT HIM LATER.

SO WE'RE GOING TO TALK ABOUT THAT. AND THEN I WENT TO LINCOLN MIDDLE SCHOOL AND I TOLD YOU I GRADUATED FROM PIKE HIGH SCHOOL.

I THEN WENT DOWN THE ROAD TO INDIANA UNIVERSITY, BLOOMINGTON, AND SINCE THEN I'VE LAUNCHED MY OWN CONSULTING FIRM DOING DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION WORK, AND I NOW WORK FOR THE EDUCATION ADVISORY BOARD, WHICH I'LL GET INTO A LITTLE BIT OF MY ROLE THERE.

SO WHAT HAS BEEN PIKE'S IMPACT? OH, THEY ALSO TOLD ME I HAVE LIKE 5 TO 10 MINUTES.

SO IF I START, YOU KNOW, LINGERING A LITTLE BIT, SOMEONE GIVE ME THE CHURCH FINGER.

THE THING THAT I'VE LOVED ABOUT MY EXPERIENCE AT PIKE WAS THE EXPOSURE TO CULTURE.

MY NEIGHBORS WERE FROM DIFFERENT COUNTRIES.

THE DIALECTS, THE EXPERIENCES THAT I GOT TO HEAR IN THE CLASSROOMS WERE SO DIVERSE, WHICH HONESTLY, WHEN I WENT DOWN TO COLLEGE IN BLOOMINGTON, WAS A CULTURE SHOCK. BLOOMINGTON, IU BLOOMINGTON IS A PREDOMINANTLY WHITE INSTITUTION, AND SO I MISSED THE CULTURE OF PIKE TOWNSHIP.

SO THAT'S ONE OF THE GREATEST GIFTS, AND ACTUALLY LAUNCHED ME INTO EQUITY WORK BEFORE I EVEN DO IT.

THERE'S ANOTHER THING THAT I LEARNED DEEPLY ABOUT WHILE YOU DON'T KNOW THESE THINGS, WHILE YOU'RE GOING THROUGH IT, RIGHT? AND THEN YOU LOOK BACK AND YOU'RE LIKE, DANG, LIKE, THIS WAS AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE.

SO I LEARNED A LOT ABOUT NEED NOT ONLY HAVING A NEED, BUT ALSO HOW TO MEET PEOPLE'S NEEDS.

AND I'M GOING TO TALK ABOUT THAT WHEN I TALK ABOUT THE STUDENT COUNCIL THAT I SERVED ON WHILE AT PIKE HIGH SCHOOL.

THERE WERE SOME TEACHERS THAT IMPACTED ME ALONG THE WAY THAT I STILL THINK ABOUT TO THIS DAY.

DR. LARRY YOUNG LET ME TELL YOU HOW WHY I REMEMBER DR.

YOUNG. I ALWAYS GOT ON MY REPORT CARD.

PLEASURE TO HAVE IN CLASS TALKS TOO MUCH.

I HEAR MY DAD BACK THERE LAUGHING BECAUSE HE GOT TIRED OF SEEING THAT REMARK.

IT WAS DR. YOUNG, THOUGH, HONESTLY, BEING THE FIRST BLACK MALE EDUCATOR UNTIL THIS DAY, OF ALL THE DEGREES THAT I'VE EARNED, HE IS ONLY ONE OF TWO BLACK MALE EDUCATORS THAT I'VE HAD. BUT HE ACTUALLY TOLD MY DAD.

HE SAID SHE TALKS A LOT IN CLASS, BUT IT'S A GOOD THING, LIKE WE WANT HER TO USE HER VOICE.

THAT WAS SO LIBERATING FOR ME.

I THINK I'VE BEEN HOLDING ON TO THAT SINCE.

RIGHT. BUT HE WAS THE FIRST PERSON THAT SAID, IT'S GOOD TO USE YOUR VOICE.

WE DON'T WANT TO SILENCE YOU.

WE WANT YOU TO SPEAK UP.

AND BEING A CONSULTANT, BEING AN ADVOCATE FOR EQUITY WORK, THAT'S ALL I DO IS I USE MY VOICE AND GET PAID TO DO IT RIGHT.

SO THAT WAS THE FIRST TIME THAT I GOT FREED FROM FEELING LIKE USING MY VOICE WAS A BAD THING.

THEN I GOT TO EIGHTH GRADE.

MS. [INAUDIBLE] GARCIA I DON'T KNOW IF ANY OF THESE PEOPLE ARE STILL WITH THE DISTRICT, BUT I ACTUALLY GOT IN TROUBLE IN HER CLASS.

I WAS A STRAIGHT-A STUDENT.

I WAS A NERD. I DID NOT GET IN TROUBLE.

I GOT IN TROUBLE IN HER CLASS.

AND NOT ONLY DID I GET IN TROUBLE IN HER CLASS, BUT SHE CALLED MY DAD AND I WAS LIKE, MS. GARCIA, WHY ARE YOU TELLING ON ME? LIKE, I'M A GOOD STUDENT? BUT WHAT I LEARNED THERE WAS THAT I HAD I WAS SETTING A TONE.

I HAD A VOICE AT MY PRESENCE, CARRIED POWER.

SO I HAD SOME SIGNIFICANT RESPONSIBILITIES FOR MY PEERS WATCHING ME AND MY INSTRUCTORS.

THERE WAS A LOT OF PRESSURE, AND SO I STARTED RISING TO THAT OCCASION AFTER SHE TOLD ME.

BUT RIGHT AFTER I LEARNED THAT LESSON THAT PEOPLE WERE WATCHING.

SO THEN I GET TO HIGH SCHOOL AND THERE ARE THREE TEACHERS THAT I'M GOING TO SPEAK WELL, THREE TEACHERS HERE THAT I'M GOING TO SPEAK ABOUT ANOTHER TEACHER ON THE NEXT SLIDE.

SO I WAS IN STUDENT COUNCIL.

AND AGAIN, REMEMBER, I TOLD YOU, I STARTED UNDERSTANDING WHAT IT MEANT TO MEET PEOPLE'S NEED.

SO JUNIOR YEAR, I WAS STUDENT COUNCIL PRESIDENT AT PIKE HIGH SCHOOL.

AND I CANNOT, FOR THE LIFE OF ME REMEMBER THIS WOMAN'S NAME, BUT SHE WAS THE TEACHER SPONSOR OF STUDENT COUNCIL THAT YEAR, AND SHE EMPOWERED US LIKE NEVER BEFORE.

AND ACTUALLY WITH HER, I WROTE MY FIRST GRANT WITH THE UNITED WAY, WHICH FUNDED THE PIKE RED ZONE.

SO WE SPEND HOURS UPON HOURS IN THERE BUILDING SHELVES, STOCKING THIS PLACE.

IT WAS REALLY WHAT ARE THE STUDENTS SAYING THAT OTHER STUDENTS NEED? WHAT IS IT THAT THESE STUDENTS WANT TO SEE? AND SO WHEN WE GOT AWARDED THAT GRANT, WE SPENT ABOUT FOUR OR FIVE MONTHS PREPARING IT AND THEN OPENING IT UP FOR PEOPLE TO COME AND BENEFIT FROM IT.

AND I ACTUALLY GOT TO BEFORE I CAME IN HERE, I GOT TO GO SEE IT, AND I HAVEN'T SEEN IT SINCE I LEFT THE HIGH SCHOOL.

SO IT WAS GOOD TO SEE HOW IT HAS EXPANDED.

AND THEN THERE'S MISS CHAMPION, WHO WAS MY CHEMISTRY TEACHER.

I HATED CHEMISTRY, BUT I LOVED MISS CHAMPION.

SHE WAS THIS FIRECRACKER.

SHE HAD A BALL OF ENERGY, BUT ALSO OUTSIDE OF CHEMISTRY, RIGHT? I WAS A PART OF THE TRACK TEAM AND SO SHE WAS MY COACH.

AND THE WAY THAT SHE CONTINUED TO PUSH US TO FIGHT AND FIGHT AND FIGHT, I WAS A THROWER.

SO A LOT OF TIMES LIKE LIFTING WEIGHTS WITH COACH SUTTON, I'D BE SORE AND I'D BE TIRED THE NEXT DAY.

AND SHE'S LIKE, YOU CAN KEEP GOING.

AND THAT REALLY SERVED ME WELL WHILE MOVING THROUGH MY DEGREES IN COLLEGE.

AND THEN NOT SO SHINY OF A STORY, BUT INCREDIBLY IMPACTFUL.

I HAD A CALCULUS TEACHER.

THIS WAS THE FIRST PERSON THAT EVER DOUBTED ME.

I TOLD MY DAD.

HE SAID, SHE'S PROBABLY NOT GOING TO DO WELL IN COLLEGE.

BECAUSE SHE'S STRUGGLING IN MY AP CALCULUS CLASS.

AND I WAS LIKE, GAME ON, TELL ME I CAN'T DO SOMETHING AND WE'RE GOING TO PLAY THIS GAME.

SO THAT FIRST SEMESTER, CALCULUS A1 SECOND SEMESTER, I CAME BACK AND I GOT AN A IN CALCULUS.

THAT WAS MY FIRST TIME GETTING AN A IN THAT LEVEL OF A COURSE.

AND SO WHAT HE REALLY SHOWED ME IS THAT WHEN YOU GET TO COLLEGE, THAT GRINDING, THAT GRIT, YOU'RE REALLY GOING TO NEED IT.

AND SO THESE ARE SOME TEACHERS THAT HAVE ABSOLUTELY IMPACTED MY EXPERIENCE THROUGHOUT THE DISTRICT.

BUT THERE'S ONE MORE THAT I HAVE TO MENTION.

SHE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE HERE TONIGHT, BUT SHE COULDN'T BE DR.

DEBORAH DANIELS-CALHOUN SHE WAS MRS. CALHOUN WHEN I WAS IN SCHOOL.

A COUPLE OF THINGS. SO MY DEGREES ARE IN SCIENCE.

SO I'VE BEEN ABLE TO DO SOME GREAT THINGS BECAUSE OF MY GROUNDING AND MY ROOTS HERE IN PIKE TOWNSHIP.

LITTLE BIT OF STORY THAT YOU PROBABLY DON'T KNOW.

WE CAME TO PIKE TOWNSHIP FROM AN IP SCHOOL, FROM IPS, AND AT THE TIME THAT WE CAME TO PIKE TOWNSHIP, MY DAD WAS BATTLING FOUR TYPES OF CANCER.

HE WAS A SINGLE FATHER AND HE TOOK IN FOUR KIDS AND RAISED THEM ON HIS OWN.

AND NOW MANY OF US HAVE GRADUATED WITH MULTIPLE DEGREES.

WE PLAY SEMIPROFESSIONAL BASKETBALL.

WE ARE LEADERS IN OUR COMMUNITIES AND HE IS STILL HERE TODAY.

BUT A LOT OF IT IS BECAUSE OF THE SUPPORT [APPLAUSE].

A LOT OF IT IS BECAUSE OF THE SUPPORT THAT WE RECEIVED THROUGHOUT OUR TIME IN THE DISTRICT.

SO WHAT WOULD I SAY TO FAMILIES? ONE, FAMILIES PLEASE BE INFORMED ABOUT THE LAWS AND THE POLICIES AND ALSO THE OPPORTUNITIES THAT EXIST HERE IN PIKE TOWNSHIP.

WHAT CHANGED MY LIFE AND LAUNCHED ME INTO STEM.

SO FIRST I WANTED TO BE A TEACHER, RIGHT? WELL, LAUNCH ME INTO DOING RESEARCH, REALLY WAS SOPHOMORE YEAR OF HIGH SCHOOL.

SOMEONE CAME TO ME, I THINK IT WAS DR.

RUTH WOODS AND SAID, HEY, THEY'RE DOING THIS PROGRAM DOWNTOWN AT THE IU SCHOOL OF MEDICINE.

IT'S GOING TO PAY YOU TO LEARN HOW TO DO RESEARCH.

MY DAD WAS LIKE, THIS IS A NO BRAINER.

LIKE, WE'RE NOT PLAYING THESE GAMES.

THIS IS WHERE YOU'LL BE. PRIOR TO THAT, I WAS WORKING AS A CAMP COUNSELOR IN THE SUMMERS, RIGHT? HE WAS LIKE, NO, WE'RE GOING DOWN TO THE SCHOOL OF MEDICINE.

LIFE CHANGING.

ABSOLUTELY. LIFE CHANGING.

16 YEARS OLD, GETTING PUBLICATIONS, SOMETHING I NEVER IMAGINED EVEN BEING ABLE TO DO.

SO KNOW WHAT THE OPPORTUNITIES ARE, BUT ALSO BE INFORMED ABOUT THE LAWS AND THE POLICIES AND THEN ADVOCATE FOR YOUR STUDENTS.

SO I WORKED IN ENROLLMENT MANAGEMENT WHERE MY JOB WAS TO OVERSEE THE STRATEGY FOR RECRUITMENT AND OUTREACH, AND ONE OF THE SCHOOLS THAT I SERVICED WAS PIKE HIGH SCHOOL.

SO I'VE NOW SINCE LEFT ENROLLMENT MANAGEMENT.

BUT I REMEMBER REVIEWING THE APPLICATIONS FROM STUDENTS HERE AND JUST BEING LIKE, YEAH, PIKE HAS GOOD TALENT LIKE THIS FEELS FAMILIAR, LIKE THIS IS A PIKE STUDENT AND SO CONTINUE.

BUT THERE ARE TIMES WHERE ON PAPER THAT STUDENT DIDN'T LOOK LIKE THEY MET OUR REQUIREMENTS.

BUT THOSE PARENTS PICKED UP THE PHONE AND THEY CALLED US AND THAT HELPED US MAKE DIFFERENT DECISIONS ABOUT ADMISSIONS.

SO PARENTS CONTINUE TO ADVOCATE FOR YOUR STUDENTS.

STUDENTS HUMILITY CARRIES YOU A LONG WAY.

I CAME OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL THINKING I WAS THE BADDEST THING WALKING, GOT TO COLLEGE, AND EVERYBODY WAS THE BADDEST THING WALKING.

OKAY, SO HUMILITY IS GOING TO CARRY YOU A LONG WAY AND IT'S GOING TO REALLY OPEN UP SOME DOORS.

SO AS YOU'RE ENGAGING WITH PEOPLE NOW, LIKE I NEVER WOULD HAVE THOUGHT DR.

YOUNG WOULD BE THE PERSON INTRODUCING ME AS AN ALUMNI OF EXCELLENCE.

HE WAS MY FIFTH GRADE TEACHER, RIGHT? SO BEING ABLE TO BE HUMBLED TO KEEP THOSE RELATIONSHIPS, THOSE THOSE DOORS OPEN IS IMPORTANT.

ALL IT TAKES IS ONE.

YES, I TOLD YOU ALL THAT CALCULUS TEACHER TOLD ME NO, THAT WAS MY ONE YES, HE DIDN'T KNOW THAT, BUT I KNEW THAT.

RIGHT. SO ALL IT TAKES IS ONE.

YES. YOU'RE GOING TO GET DOORS THAT CLOSE AND CLOSE AND CLOSE.

THERE ARE MORE THAN 200 BILLS CURRENTLY BETWEEN THE SENATE AND THE HOUSE THAT ARE IMPACT EDUCATION OUT OF ABOUT 1200 TOTAL.

SO A LOT OF THE BILLS THAT THE STATE IS LOOKING AT ARE IMPACTING EDUCATION.

THE PRIMARY ONE IS HOUSE BILL 1001, WHICH IS OUR BUDGET BILL.

A COUPLE OF THINGS RELATED TO EDUCATION.

THERE'S ABOUT A 6% INCREASE RIGHT NOW IN FOR BOTH FOUNDATION AND COMPLEXITY FUNDS, WHICH IS GOOD.

INCLUDED IN THAT BILL IS FUNDS THAT ARE GOING TO COVER TEXTBOOK FEES.

WE'LL SEE IF THAT ACTUALLY PASSES.

BUT IF IT DOES, THEN IT WILL ELIMINATE THAT COST TO OUR PARENTS AND OUR FAMILIES.

IN ADDITION, THERE'S MORE FUNDS THAT ARE BEING ALLOCATED FOR ELL AND SPECIAL EDUCATION.

AND WHILE IT'S NOT INCLUDED IN THE FUNDING THIS YEAR, THE STATE BOARD IS CONTINUING TO PUSH FOR THE EXPANSION OF PRE K ELIGIBILITY AND FUNDING. AND IT WASN'T TOO LONG AGO AND I STILL REMEMBER WHEN FULL DAY KINDERGARTEN WASN'T A THING, IT WAS AM/PM KINDERGARTEN.

AND WE DIDN'T SEE THE NEED NECESSARILY TO HAVE KIDS IN FULL DAY KINDERGARTEN AND NOW IT'S JUST NORMAL.

AND SO CONTINUING US CONTINUING TO PUSH OUR LEGISLATORS TO CONTINUE LOOKING FOR THAT FUNDING, CREATING THAT MORE CONSISTENT PRE K LEARNING ENVIRONMENT.

THOSE STUDENTS ARE GOING TO COME TO PIKE EVEN MORE PREPARED.

THERE'S A LOT OF BILLS THAT WE'RE PUSHING TO REQUIRE SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS TO DECLARE A PARTY.

THOSE ALL SEEM TO HAVE DIED IN COMMITTEE, THANK GOODNESS BECAUSE WE LEAVE PARTISANSHIP AT THE DOOR WHEN WE COME IN HERE.

IT'S ABOUT WORKING FOR THE CHILDREN.
