AGAIN, WELCOME.

AND AT THIS TIME WE ARE UP FOR THE GOOD OF THE CAUSE.

IF THERE'S ANYONE THAT HAVE ANYTHING THEY LIKE TO SHARE FOR THE GOOD OF THE CAUSE THIS EVENING.

AS A PATRON, YOU HAVE 3 MINUTES TIME LIMIT PER PERSON AND STATE YOUR NAME AND YOU FEEL FREE TO SHARE FOR THE GOOD OF THE CAUSE IF THERE IS ANYONE.

[3. SPOTLIGHT ON PIKE]

IT'S WONDERFUL TO SEE YOU ALL.

WE'VE HAD A COUPLE OF WONDERFUL AND BUSY WEEKS IN PIKE.

IT IS NATIONAL SCHOOL COUNSELORS WEEK, SO WE WENT TO SINCERELY THANK THE INCREDIBLE COUNSELORS SERVING STUDENTS AND SCHOOLS THROUGHOUT OUR DISTRICT.

PIKE HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR ALISHA GAMBLE WAS SELECTED AS A MCDONALD'S BLACK HISTORY, MAKERS OF TODAY'S SCHOLARSHIP AWARD WINNER.

HER BUSINESS TEACHER, JUSTICE CARMICHAEL NOMINATED HER FOR THE AWARD, WHICH RECOGNIZES STUDENTS FOR THEIR LEADERSHIP AND ABILITY TO UPLIFT THEIR PEERS AND COMMUNITY.

SO SHE WILL RECEIVE $1,000 DUE TO THAT SELECTION.

AND SHE'S ALSO EMPLOYED AT A LOCAL MCDONALD'S HERE.

SO WE WISH HER THE BEST OF LUCK IN THAT SCHOLARSHIP WILL, OF COURSE, GO TO FUND HER EDUCATIONAL ENDEAVORS.

MOVING FORWARD, WE'D LIKE TO EXPRESS OUR APPRECIATION TO THE PIKE TOWNSHIP EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION FOR THE DONATIONS WHICH APPEAR ON THIS EVENING'S AGENDA.

THE FOUNDATION DONATED MONEY TO SUPPLY HEADPHONES FOR ONE OF OUR CLASSROOMS AT CENTRAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, AND THEY ALSO PROVIDED FUNDING TO HELP PURCHASE FLEXIBLE SEATING FOR THE CLASSROOM AT FISHBACK CREEK.

OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF WEEKS, MEMBERS OF THE FOUNDATION'S BOARD WERE ALSO EXTREMELY BUSY VISITING EACH OF OUR ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS, WHERE THEY READ THE BOOK 'TOO MANY CATS' TO OUR KINDERGARTEN CLASSES AND GIFTED COPIES OF THE BOOK TO EACH OF OUR KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS.

SO EVERY KINDERGARTEN STUDENT IN THE DISTRICT GOT TO TAKE ONE OF THESE BOOKS HOME.

THEY SELECTED THE BOOK, WHICH FEATURES THE STORY IN ENGLISH AND SPANISH WITH THE HELP FROM SHIRLEY MULLINS AT KIDS INC.

UM GENEROUS SUPPORT FOR THIS INITIATIVE WAS PROVIDED BY DONATIONS FROM THE PIKE TOWNSHIP HISTORICAL SOCIETY AND THE TEACHERS CREDIT UNION.

BEING ABLE TO BE PRESENT FOR THE READING AND BOOK DISTRIBUTION DAY AS NEXT CROSSING WAS AN ABSOLUTE JOY.

ONE OF THE THINGS THAT THE BOARD MEMBER THAT I WAS WITH, WHICH WAS ACTUALLY MRS. HOOPER POINTED OUT, WAS THERE'S AN ACTUAL IT'S CALLED A GROW WITH ME BOOK.

AND SO ALTHOUGH THERE WAS LANGUAGE THAT ADULTS COULD READ, THERE WAS ALSO A MORE SIMPLIFIED LANGUAGE THAT THE STUDENTS COULD READ AT THIS LEVEL AND THEN THEY WOULD BE ABLE TO PROGRESS. AND SO THE BOOK WOULD STAY RELEVANT FOR THEM.

AND THE STUDENTS ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT.

THEY WERE LAUGHING, THEY WERE ENGAGED, THEY WERE PARTICIPATING, AND IT WAS JUST A BEAUTIFUL THING.

SO WE WANT TO THANK THE FOUNDATION FOR THAT.

WE WANT TO CONGRATULATE OUR HIGH SCHOOL MEN'S FRESHMAN BASKETBALL TEAM FOR BEING RUNNERS UP IN THE MARION COUNTY TOURNAMENT.

WE WANT TO CONGRATULATE THE MEMBERS OF OUR PIKE TOWNSHIP GIRLS MIDDLE SCHOOL SWIM TEAM FOR BREAKING NOT ONE BUT TWO RECORDS WHEN THEY HOSTED BELZER ON TUESDAY.

WE WANT TO REMIND YOU THAT TOMORROW EVENING WE HAVE THE HONOR OF RECOGNIZING PIKE HIGH SCHOOLS FOUR INDIANA HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL HALL OF FAME INDUCTEES AT HALFTIME OF OUR BOYS VARSITY GAME. AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST, JUST REMIND YOU THAT ON SATURDAY, OUR HIGH SCHOOL PERFORMING ARTS DEPARTMENT WILL PROUDLY HOST THEIR 25TH ANNIVERSARY PIKE MUSIC FEST AT THE PIKE PERFORMING ARTS CENTER.

THE EVENT WILL FEATURE AT LEAST 19 SHOW CHOIRS A DAY FULL OF INCREDIBLE PERFORMANCES, AND WE'LL HAVE HUNDREDS OF GUESTS DESCEND ON OUR COMMUNITY TO ENJOY OUR FACILITIES AND THE TALENTS OF OUR STUDENTS AND STAFF.

GOOD EVENING, DR. WEBSTER, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD.

DR. YOUNG. I'D LIKE TO TAKE A FEW MINUTES TONIGHT TO TALK TO YOU ABOUT HOW PIKE TOWNSHIP IS ADDRESSING A NATIONAL CRISIS, THE TEACHER SHORTAGE.

AS YOU KNOW, THE SHORTAGE OF QUALIFIED TEACHERS IN IS IMPACTING MANY SCHOOLS, JUST NOT PIKE TOWNSHIP.

AND WE'RE CERTAINLY NOT IMMUNE TO THIS CHALLENGE.

HOWEVER, I AM VERY PROUD TO SEE THE PROGRESS THAT PIKE TOWNSHIP HAS MADE OVER JUST A LITTLE BIT OF COURSE OF TIME OVER THE LAST SIX MONTHS.

MUCH OF THIS WORK IS A BYPRODUCT OF OUR CONVERSATION THAT WE HAD AT LAST YEAR'S ADMINISTRATIVE RETREAT, WHERE DR.

YOUNG HAD OUR TEAM PARTICIPATE IN COLLABORATIVE ACTIVITIES, WHERE REALLY IT WAS JUST A BRAINSTORMING SESSION WHERE WE TALKED ABOUT WHAT WERE SOME OF THE BARRIERS AND CHALLENGES THAT ADMINISTRATORS WERE SEEING IN FILLING THESE POSITIONS AND WHAT THINGS COULD WE DO MOVING FORWARD TO ADDRESS THESE ISSUES.

THE BIG CONSENSUS OF OUT OF THESE CONVERSATION AS WE SPLIT FROM MIDDLE HIGH AND ELEMENTARY WAS IT WAS GOING TO BE SOLVED.

IT HAD TO BE SOLVED AT A LOCAL LEVEL.

I THINK SOMEONE SAID THAT NO ONE IS COMING TO SAVE US.

AND THAT IS CERTAINLY THAT IS CERTAINLY TRUE.

SO TONIGHT, I JUST WANT TO SHARE WITH THE BOARD THREE MAJOR AREAS THAT WE ARE FOCUSING ON HERE IN PIKE TOWNSHIP.

AS WE DO THIS CRITICAL WORK, WE ARE LOOKING AT EXPANDING A DISTRICT BASED ALTERNATIVE CERTIFICATION PROGRAM.

YOU WILL HEAR ME REFER TO THAT A LITTLE BIT LATER AS A D BACK PROGRAM.

ALSO, I'M VERY EXCITED ABOUT OUR GROW YOUR OWN INITIATIVES.

YOU WILL SEE THAT AS WE TALK ABOUT THIS, THAT THE BEST WAY TO GET EDUCATORS IN THE PROFESSION IS TO GROW THEM HERE IN PIKE TOWNSHIP.

SO YOU'LL HEAR A COUPLE OF INITIATIVES THAT WE HAVE THAT WE CAN SHARE WITH YOU THAT WE ARE LOOKING TO SHARE HOW WE'RE STARTING THAT CONVERSATION MUCH EARLIER WITH OUR STUDENTS HERE IN PIKE.

AND THEN LASTLY, I'M JUST GOING TO TALK ABOUT HOW WE ARE SUPPORTING OUR TEACHER CADET PROGRAM.

PIKE HAS ALWAYS HAD ONE, BUT THERE'S A COUPLE OF THINGS THAT WE'RE GOING TO DO A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT WITH THIS YEAR.

THESE ARE SOME OF OUR COMMUNITY UNIVERSITY PARTNERS THAT WE HAVE WORKING WITH US.

WE HAVE U INDY, IVY TECH, BUTLER.

THE REASON WHY I PUT IUPUI UP THERE IS THAT WE HAVE VERY THREE, THREE DISTINCT INITIATIVES WITH THEM THAT WE HAVE THAT ARE SUPPORTING OUR TEACHERS AND HERE IN THE DISTRICTS. AND I'M GOING TO TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT SOME OF THOSE PROGRAMS HERE.

SO FIRST I WANT TO TALK ABOUT THE DBAC PROGRAM.

THE DBAC PROGRAM IS A DISTRICT BASED ALTERNATIVE CERTIFICATION PROGRAM WHICH WILL ALLOW TEACHERS WHO HAVE, I'M SORRY, IAS OR ANYONE WHO HAS A BACHELOR'S DEGREE WHO WORKS IN OUR ORGANIZATION TO GO TO IUPUI WITH A 25% REDUCTION IN TUITION.

I WILL LET YOU KNOW, I'M VERY PROUD, NEXT WEEK, I'LL BE MEETING WITH TWO INDIVIDUALS WHO WANT TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS PROGRAM.

AND THEY'RE BOTH MALES.

AND WE KNOW THAT THERE'S A NEED FOR THOSE IN OUR CLASSROOMS AS WELL.

ADDITIONALLY, THEY ARE ABLE TO STILL REMAIN EMPLOYED IN THEIR CURRENT POSITION AND IT HAPPENS HERE ON SITE.

NEXT, I WANT TO TALK TO YOU ABOUT OUR TEACHER CADET PROGRAM THAT WE ARE STRENGTHENING AT PIKE HIGH SCHOOL.

YOU ARE PROBABLY VERY FAMILIAR WITH THE PATHWAYS THAT WE HAVE AT THE PIKE HIGH SCHOOL.

THEY ARE ABLE TO COMPLETE COURSES THAT WILL LEAD UP TO ADDITIONAL 12 CREDIT HOURS THAT WOULD TRANSFER INTO IUPUI, U INDY, THEY HAVE KIND OF A COLLABORATIVE . THIS IS HUGE FOR OUR STUDENTS.

U INDY HAS PROMISED TO MAKE AN INVESTMENT INTO OUR KIDS BY OFFERING THE SAME LEVEL OF TUITION AT IUPUI MATCHING TUITION.

THAT IS A HUGE COST SAVING TO OUR STUDENTS.

I WENT TO U INDY, I STILL OWE THEM A LITTLE BIT MONEY, SO I UNDERSTAND.

BUT WITH THAT BEING SAID, WE CERTAINLY ARE GOING TO MAKE SURE THAT OUR CADETS, WHEREVER THEY CHOOSE, THEY'RE GOING TO BENEFIT FROM THESE PARTNERSHIPS TODAY.

ADDITIONALLY, CADETS WILL HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO ATTEND SATURDAY'S SUMMIT SESSIONS, WHICH WILL BE FACILITATED BY IUPUI STAFF, WHERE THEY'LL GET TO LEARN FROM INDUSTRY LEADERS, LEADERS IN THE FIELD OF EDUCATION, AND THEY'LL ALSO, MOST IMPORTANTLY, BE MENTORED FROM SENIOR THROUGH UNTIL THEY GET ON CAMPUS AND THROUGHOUT THAT CAMPUS EXPERIENCE.

ANOTHER RELATIONSHIP THAT WE HAVE WITH IUPUI IS OUR COUNSELING, A NEED FOR COUNSELORS.

EVERYONE KNOWS THAT IN OUR DISTRICT, REALLY, EVERY SCHOOL DISTRICT THEN NEEDS TO ADDRESS THE SOCIO EMOTIONAL NEEDS OF OUR CHILDREN.

THEY'RE THERE AND THEY'RE SHOWING.

THEY'RE TELLING US EVERY SINGLE DAY.

THROUGH THIS PARTNERSHIP, THEY WILL PROVIDE FOR 50% OF A TUITION REDUCTION FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE INTERESTED IN PURSUING THEIR MASTER'S IN COUNSELING. ADDITIONALLY, THROUGH THIS PARTNERSHIP, OVER A THREE YEAR PERIOD, THEY WILL INCREASE THE NUMBER OF COUNSELORS IN OUR DISTRICT BY FIVE PER YEAR WHEN THIS PARTNERSHIP BEGINS. THIS YEAR IS THE BEGINNING OF THAT TIMELINE.

WE'LL PROBABLY SEE THE FRUITS OF THAT PROBABLY TWO YEARS FROM NOW.

NEXT, I'M GOING TO TALK ABOUT OUR ENL CERTIFICATION THROUGH IUPUI.

I HOPE EVERYONE KNOWS THAT OUR ONE OF OUR FASTEST DEMOGRAPHICS THAT WE HAVE GROWING IN PIKE TOWNSHIP IS OUR ENL STUDENT DEMOGRAPHIC.

AND THAT COULD BE ANY LANGUAGE, RIGHT? WE DON'T HAVE CURRENTLY HAVE ENOUGH PEOPLE TO FILL THOSE POSITIONS.

AND THIS IS NOT JUST IN OUR DISTRICT.

THIS IS HAPPENING ACROSS THE STATE OF INDIANA.

THEY ARE GOING TO PROVIDE FREE CERTIFICATION FOR ANY TEACHER IN THE DISTRICT WHO WOULD LIKE TO PURSUE THEIR OPPORTUNITY WITH IUPUI FOR ENL

CERTIFICATION. AGAIN, THAT HAPPENS HERE ON SITE.

ALL THE TEACHER HAS TO DO IS PAY FOR BOOKS.

THAT IS A WONDERFUL OPPORTUNITY, NOT ONLY FOR THE NEEDS THAT WE HAVE HERE, BUT IS ALSO A GREAT PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITY FOR OUR TEACHERS.

I'M REALLY EXCITED TO TALK ABOUT OUR GROW YOUR OWN PROGRAM.

YOU HEARD ME TALK ABOUT THE SATURDAY SUMMITS.

WHAT WE'RE GOING TO DO FOR OUR TEACHERS WHO ARE IN OUR CADET PROGRAMS WHERE THEY'LL ACTUALLY CONNECT WITH UNIVERSITIES ON SATURDAYS.

AND WE HAVE A TEACHER LIAISON AT THE HIGH SCHOOL WHO WILL HELP TO FACILITATE THAT.

AND THEN IN THE SUMMER, THEY WILL ALSO BE ABLE TO GO AND EXPERIENCE THAT LIFE ON CAMPUS AS WELL.

WE WILL ALSO BE PROMOTING HERE TO OUR EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS HERE.

WE'RE CURRENTLY PLANNING ON OPPORTUNITIES TO INTRODUCE THEM INTO A TEACHER PROFESSION.

I HOPE EVERYONE KNOWS HOW WE TALK ABOUT THIS PROFESSION IS VERY KEY TO WHAT OUR YOUNG PEOPLE PERCEIVE ABOUT THIS PROFESSION.

SO WE NEED TO BE INTENTIONAL ABOUT MAKING SURE THEY KNOW ALL OF THE PATHWAYS THAT IT HAS CREATED FOR US IN THIS ROOM AND THE OPPORTUNITIES THAT THE EDUCATIONAL FIELD HAS FOR THEM.

IN SUMMER SCHOOL, WE ARE GOING TO INVITE OUR SENIORS TO COME AND HELP WITH AND GET THAT PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE IN SUMMER SCHOOL AND SERVE AS MENTORS DURING THAT TIME.

AND THEN ONE OF THE THINGS I'M REALLY EXCITED ABOUT IS THE COLLABORATION PIECE WITH ELEVATE AND ELEVATE ED IS OUR PREMIER SUMMER PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT, AND THIS WILL BE THE FIRST TIME THAT WE'RE GOING TO SPECIFICALLY SEND OUT INVITATIONS FOR OUR STUDENT TEACHERS TO SEE THAT, TO SEE ALL THOSE EXCITING THINGS THAT WE'RE OFFERING HERE IN PIKE TOWNSHIP. WHAT A WAY TO RECRUIT AND TO ENERGIZE OUR TEACHERS AND SAY, HEY, YOU KNOW WHAT? I WANT TO BE A PART OF THAT.

AND I THINK THAT'S A GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR ALL OF OUR STUDENT TEACHERS.

AND I ALSO WANT TO GIVE A SHOUT OUT TO DR.

HUNTER AS NEXT WEEK, ON FEBRUARY 23RD, WE WILL HAVE OUR FIRST STUDENT TEACHER CELEBRATION HERE AT PIKE TOWNSHIP, WHERE WE'RE GOING TO HONOR THOSE STUDENT TEACHERS WHO ARE FINISHING THEIR STUDENT TEACHING PRACTICAL ONES HERE IN PIKE TOWNSHIP.

SO LOOK FORWARD TO THAT.

I'VE SPOKEN QUICKLY TONIGHT ABOUT HOW WE'RE GOING TO ATTRACT INDIVIDUALS TO THE DISTRICT, BUT ANY TEACHER ADDRESSING THE SHORTAGE, YOU'VE GOT TO TALK ABOUT RETAINING THE STAFF THAT YOU HAVE.

THAT IS A CRITICAL AS JUST AS IMPORTANT AS ATTRACTING PEOPLE TO THE PROFESSION.

I AM VERY PROUD OF THE THINGS THAT WE HAVE DONE HERE IN PIKE TOWNSHIP TO ATTRACT INDIVIDUALS TO STAY, RETAIN IN OUR FIELD THROUGH SIGNING BONUSES, THROUGH PROMOTION OF ACTIVITIES SUCH AS OUR ASSET BASED PROGRAM FOR EXCEPTIONAL LEARNERS.

WE HAVE SEVEN TEACHERS WHO ARE GETTING THEIR EXCEPTIONAL LEARNERS LICENSE.

THAT MAY NOT SOUND LIKE A LARGE NUMBER.

THAT IS A HUGE NUMBER OF INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE CHOOSING TO GO TO WORK WITH SOME OF OUR KIDS WHO HAVE SOME OF OUR WHO HAVE VERY DISTINCT CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES.

WE ALSO HAVE CREATED UNIVERSITY PARTNERSHIPS, RETENTION, BONUS TYPE, BONUS, ONBOARDING STIPENDS, YOU NAME IT.

WE ARE TRYING TO MAKE SURE THAT WE DO THAT HERE IN PIKE.

I DO WANT TO SHARE WITH YOU.

CURRENTLY, WE HAVE 27 STUDENTS AT THE HIGH SCHOOL WHO ARE GOING TO ENTER INTO THE TEACHING PROFESSION.

AND SO WE SHOULD BE VERY PROUD OF THEM.

WE ALSO HAVE 12 THAT ARE LEAVING THIS YEAR THAT ARE GOING TO BE STEPPING FOOT ON CAMPUS NEXT YEAR, ENROLLING AS EDUCATION MAJOR.

WE HAVE SOME WORK TO DO. WE HAVE 12 INTERVIEWS THAT WE'VE GOT TO CONDUCT, RIGHT.

TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY COME BACK TO WORK HERE IN PIKE TOWNSHIP.

EVERYONE KNOWS THE BEST PEOPLE TO SERVE.

OUR STUDENTS IN OUR COMMUNITIES ARE THOSE WHO ARE INVESTED IN KNOW OUR COMMUNITY.

SO I'M EXCITED ABOUT THAT OPPORTUNITY TO MEET ALL OF THOSE STUDENTS AT THE HIGH SCHOOL AND JUST TO SHARE WITH THEM, HEY PIKE, YOU HAVE A HOME WHEN YOU ARE DONE WITH YOUR WORK.

SO IN CONCLUSION, I JUST WANT TO SHARE WITH YOU THAT WE'RE TAKING A COMPREHENSIVE APPROACH AND KNOW IT FEELS LIKE AN ETERNITY, THAT RETREAT THAT WE HAD IN JULY.

BUT I'M VERY PROUD OF WHAT WE'VE DONE OVER THESE SIX MONTHS.

THERE MIGHT BE SOME THINGS THAT TAKE A LITTLE BIT WHILE BEFORE WE SEE THE FRUITS OF THAT, BUT IT WILL COME AND I'M EXCITED ABOUT THE PEOPLE ON BOARD WHO'S GOING TO HELP TO SPUR ALL THOSE INITIATIVES. SO AGAIN, I WANT TO THANK YOU FOR THE TIME TONIGHT.

AND SO THERE WAS A COMPONENT FOR OUR BARGAINING UNIT, OUR TEACHERS, AND THEN THERE WAS A COMPONENT FOR STAFF OUTSIDE OF THE NON BARGAINING.

I DID GET A CALL FROM FORMER BOARD MEMBER, MR. METZLER. SO WE KNOW THAT HE IS A PIKE HISTORIAN AND HE WANTED TO MAKE SURE I KNEW THAT LINDA POTTER, FORMER MUSIC TEACHER, AT SNACKS CROSSING PASSED AWAY HERE RECENTLY, SO PLEASE KEEP HER AND HER FAMILY IN YOUR PRAYERS.

I DID GET A CHANCE TO GO OUT AND SAY WAVE AND SAY HI TO SOME OF OUR TEACHERS AND PARENTS AS THEY WERE GOING THROUGH PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES TODAY.
