IT'S WONDERFUL TO SEE YOU ALL.WE'VE HAD A COUPLE OF WONDERFUL AND BUSY WEEKS IN PIKE.
SO SHE WILL RECEIVE $1,000 DUE TO THAT SELECTION.
AND SHE'S ALSO EMPLOYED AT A LOCAL MCDONALD'S HERE.
THE FOUNDATION DONATED MONEY TO SUPPLY HEADPHONES FOR ONE OF OUR CLASSROOMS AT CENTRAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, AND THEY ALSO PROVIDED FUNDING TO HELP PURCHASE FLEXIBLE SEATING FOR THE CLASSROOM AT FISHBACK CREEK.
OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF WEEKS, MEMBERS OF THE FOUNDATION'S BOARD WERE ALSO EXTREMELY BUSY VISITING EACH OF OUR ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS, WHERE THEY READ THE BOOK 'TOO MANY CATS' TO OUR KINDERGARTEN CLASSES AND GIFTED COPIES OF THE BOOK TO EACH OF OUR KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS.
SO EVERY KINDERGARTEN STUDENT IN THE DISTRICT GOT TO TAKE ONE OF THESE BOOKS HOME.
ONE OF THE THINGS THAT THE BOARD MEMBER THAT I WAS WITH, WHICH WAS ACTUALLY MRS. HOOPER POINTED OUT, WAS THERE'S AN ACTUAL IT'S CALLED A GROW WITH ME BOOK.
AND SO ALTHOUGH THERE WAS LANGUAGE THAT ADULTS COULD READ, THERE WAS ALSO A MORE SIMPLIFIED LANGUAGE THAT THE STUDENTS COULD READ AT THIS LEVEL AND THEN THEY WOULD BE ABLE TO PROGRESS. AND SO THE BOOK WOULD STAY RELEVANT FOR THEM.
AND THE STUDENTS ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT.
THEY WERE LAUGHING, THEY WERE ENGAGED, THEY WERE PARTICIPATING, AND IT WAS JUST A BEAUTIFUL THING.
SO WE WANT TO THANK THE FOUNDATION FOR THAT.
WE WANT TO REMIND YOU THAT TOMORROW EVENING WE HAVE THE HONOR OF RECOGNIZING PIKE HIGH SCHOOLS FOUR INDIANA HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL HALL OF FAME INDUCTEES AT HALFTIME OF OUR BOYS VARSITY GAME. AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST, JUST REMIND YOU THAT ON SATURDAY, OUR HIGH SCHOOL PERFORMING ARTS DEPARTMENT WILL PROUDLY HOST THEIR 25TH ANNIVERSARY PIKE MUSIC FEST AT THE PIKE PERFORMING ARTS CENTER.
THE EVENT WILL FEATURE AT LEAST 19 SHOW CHOIRS A DAY FULL OF INCREDIBLE PERFORMANCES, AND WE'LL HAVE HUNDREDS OF GUESTS DESCEND ON OUR COMMUNITY TO ENJOY OUR FACILITIES AND THE TALENTS OF OUR STUDENTS AND STAFF.

AS YOU KNOW, THE SHORTAGE OF QUALIFIED TEACHERS IN IS IMPACTING MANY SCHOOLS, JUST NOT PIKE TOWNSHIP.AND WE'RE CERTAINLY NOT IMMUNE TO THIS CHALLENGE.
YOUNG HAD OUR TEAM PARTICIPATE IN COLLABORATIVE ACTIVITIES, WHERE REALLY IT WAS JUST A BRAINSTORMING SESSION WHERE WE TALKED ABOUT WHAT WERE SOME OF THE BARRIERS AND CHALLENGES THAT ADMINISTRATORS WERE SEEING IN FILLING THESE POSITIONS AND WHAT THINGS COULD WE DO MOVING FORWARD TO ADDRESS THESE ISSUES.
IT HAD TO BE SOLVED AT A LOCAL LEVEL.
I THINK SOMEONE SAID THAT NO ONE IS COMING TO SAVE US.
AND THAT IS CERTAINLY THAT IS CERTAINLY TRUE.
YOU WILL HEAR ME REFER TO THAT A LITTLE BIT LATER AS A D BACK PROGRAM.
ALSO, I'M VERY EXCITED ABOUT OUR GROW YOUR OWN INITIATIVES.
SO YOU'LL HEAR A COUPLE OF INITIATIVES THAT WE HAVE THAT WE CAN SHARE WITH YOU THAT WE ARE LOOKING TO SHARE HOW WE'RE STARTING THAT CONVERSATION MUCH EARLIER WITH OUR STUDENTS HERE IN PIKE.
AND THEN LASTLY, I'M JUST GOING TO TALK ABOUT HOW WE ARE SUPPORTING OUR TEACHER CADET PROGRAM.
THESE ARE SOME OF OUR COMMUNITY UNIVERSITY PARTNERS THAT WE HAVE WORKING WITH US.
WE HAVE U INDY, IVY TECH, BUTLER.
THE REASON WHY I PUT IUPUI UP THERE IS THAT WE HAVE VERY THREE, THREE DISTINCT INITIATIVES WITH THEM THAT WE HAVE THAT ARE SUPPORTING OUR TEACHERS AND HERE IN THE DISTRICTS. AND I'M GOING TO TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT SOME OF THOSE PROGRAMS HERE.
SO FIRST I WANT TO TALK ABOUT THE DBAC PROGRAM.
THE DBAC PROGRAM IS A DISTRICT BASED ALTERNATIVE CERTIFICATION PROGRAM WHICH WILL ALLOW TEACHERS WHO HAVE, I'M SORRY, IAS OR ANYONE WHO HAS A BACHELOR'S DEGREE WHO WORKS IN OUR ORGANIZATION TO GO TO IUPUI WITH A 25% REDUCTION IN TUITION.
AND WE KNOW THAT THERE'S A NEED FOR THOSE IN OUR CLASSROOMS AS WELL.
YOU ARE PROBABLY VERY FAMILIAR WITH THE PATHWAYS THAT WE HAVE AT THE PIKE HIGH SCHOOL.
THEY ARE ABLE TO COMPLETE COURSES THAT WILL LEAD UP TO ADDITIONAL 12 CREDIT HOURS THAT WOULD TRANSFER INTO IUPUI, U INDY, THEY HAVE KIND OF A COLLABORATIVE . THIS IS HUGE FOR OUR STUDENTS.
THAT IS A HUGE COST SAVING TO OUR STUDENTS.
I WENT TO U INDY, I STILL OWE THEM A LITTLE BIT MONEY, SO I UNDERSTAND.
ADDITIONALLY, CADETS WILL HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO ATTEND SATURDAY'S SUMMIT SESSIONS, WHICH WILL BE FACILITATED BY IUPUI STAFF, WHERE THEY'LL GET TO LEARN FROM INDUSTRY LEADERS, LEADERS IN THE FIELD OF EDUCATION, AND THEY'LL ALSO, MOST IMPORTANTLY, BE MENTORED FROM SENIOR THROUGH UNTIL THEY GET ON CAMPUS AND THROUGHOUT THAT CAMPUS EXPERIENCE.
ANOTHER RELATIONSHIP THAT WE HAVE WITH IUPUI IS OUR COUNSELING, A NEED FOR COUNSELORS.
THEY'RE THERE AND THEY'RE SHOWING.
THEY'RE TELLING US EVERY SINGLE DAY.
THROUGH THIS PARTNERSHIP, THEY WILL PROVIDE FOR 50% OF A TUITION REDUCTION FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE INTERESTED IN PURSUING THEIR MASTER'S IN COUNSELING. ADDITIONALLY, THROUGH THIS PARTNERSHIP, OVER A THREE YEAR PERIOD, THEY WILL INCREASE THE NUMBER OF COUNSELORS IN OUR DISTRICT BY FIVE PER YEAR WHEN THIS PARTNERSHIP BEGINS. THIS YEAR IS THE BEGINNING OF THAT TIMELINE.
WE'LL PROBABLY SEE THE FRUITS OF THAT PROBABLY TWO YEARS FROM NOW.
NEXT, I'M GOING TO TALK ABOUT OUR ENL CERTIFICATION THROUGH IUPUI.
AND THAT COULD BE ANY LANGUAGE, RIGHT? WE DON'T HAVE CURRENTLY HAVE ENOUGH PEOPLE TO FILL THOSE POSITIONS.
AND THIS IS NOT JUST IN OUR DISTRICT.
THIS IS HAPPENING ACROSS THE STATE OF INDIANA.

WE'RE CURRENTLY PLANNING ON OPPORTUNITIES TO INTRODUCE THEM INTO A TEACHER PROFESSION.
AND THEN ONE OF THE THINGS I'M REALLY EXCITED ABOUT IS THE COLLABORATION PIECE WITH ELEVATE AND ELEVATE ED IS OUR PREMIER SUMMER PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT, AND THIS WILL BE THE FIRST TIME THAT WE'RE GOING TO SPECIFICALLY SEND OUT INVITATIONS FOR OUR STUDENT TEACHERS TO SEE THAT, TO SEE ALL THOSE EXCITING THINGS THAT WE'RE OFFERING HERE IN PIKE TOWNSHIP. WHAT A WAY TO RECRUIT AND TO ENERGIZE OUR TEACHERS AND SAY, HEY, YOU KNOW WHAT? I WANT TO BE A PART OF THAT.
AND I THINK THAT'S A GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR ALL OF OUR STUDENT TEACHERS.
AND I ALSO WANT TO GIVE A SHOUT OUT TO DR.
HUNTER AS NEXT WEEK, ON FEBRUARY 23RD, WE WILL HAVE OUR FIRST STUDENT TEACHER CELEBRATION HERE AT PIKE TOWNSHIP, WHERE WE'RE GOING TO HONOR THOSE STUDENT TEACHERS WHO ARE FINISHING THEIR STUDENT TEACHING PRACTICAL ONES HERE IN PIKE TOWNSHIP.
I'VE SPOKEN QUICKLY TONIGHT ABOUT HOW WE'RE GOING TO ATTRACT INDIVIDUALS TO THE DISTRICT, BUT ANY TEACHER ADDRESSING THE SHORTAGE, YOU'VE GOT TO TALK ABOUT RETAINING THE STAFF THAT YOU HAVE.
THAT IS A CRITICAL AS JUST AS IMPORTANT AS ATTRACTING PEOPLE TO THE PROFESSION.
I AM VERY PROUD OF THE THINGS THAT WE HAVE DONE HERE IN PIKE TOWNSHIP TO ATTRACT INDIVIDUALS TO STAY, RETAIN IN OUR FIELD THROUGH SIGNING BONUSES, THROUGH PROMOTION OF ACTIVITIES SUCH AS OUR ASSET BASED PROGRAM FOR EXCEPTIONAL LEARNERS.
WE HAVE SEVEN TEACHERS WHO ARE GETTING THEIR EXCEPTIONAL LEARNERS LICENSE.
THAT MAY NOT SOUND LIKE A LARGE NUMBER.
WE ARE TRYING TO MAKE SURE THAT WE DO THAT HERE IN PIKE.
AND SO WE SHOULD BE VERY PROUD OF THEM.
WE HAVE SOME WORK TO DO. WE HAVE 12 INTERVIEWS THAT WE'VE GOT TO CONDUCT, RIGHT.
TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY COME BACK TO WORK HERE IN PIKE TOWNSHIP.
EVERYONE KNOWS THE BEST PEOPLE TO SERVE.
OUR STUDENTS IN OUR COMMUNITIES ARE THOSE WHO ARE INVESTED IN KNOW OUR COMMUNITY.

SO WE WEREN'T ABLE, YOU KNOW, OBVIOUSLY JANUARY 3RD WOULD BE THE FIRST DATE THAT WE COULD EVEN CONSIDER WHO WOULD QUALIFY. AND WE'RE GOING OUR PLANS TO GET THOSE STIPENDS INTO STAFF'S HAND BEFORE THE END OF THIS MONTH.
