I'M HERE TO LET THE BOARD KNOW THAT I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE INDIANA PUBLIC ACCESS COORDINATOR DUE TO TWO EXECUTIVE SESSIONS BEING HELD LAST TUESDAY, OCTOBER 18TH.

I DO NOT BELIEVE THESE WERE POSTED ONLINE BECAUSE I LOOKED AT THE BOARD WEBSITE MANY TIMES THAT DAY AS I WAS LOOKING AT THINGS.

I DO NOT HAVE AN ISSUE WITH THE EXECUTIVE SESSIONS BEING HELD.

NOT AT ALL. IN FACT, I BELIEVE THEY WERE NECESSARY.

THE ISSUE IS WITH THE FACT THAT THE EXECUTIVE SESSIONS WERE NOT POSTED AND MADE KNOWN TO THE PUBLIC.

AS IS REQUIRED IN INDIANA.

CODE 15-14-1-3 IT'S A LOT OF NUMBERS MORE COMMONLY KNOWN AS THE OPEN DOOR LAW.

THAT'S WHAT MATTERS. I'M DISAPPOINTED IN THE BOARD NOT ONCE, BUT TWICE IN JUST A FEW HOURS BREAKING THAT LAW.

AND IT'S SUCH A SIMPLE LAW TO FOLLOW.

AS WE ALL KNOW, MR. METZLER DOES AN EXCELLENT JOB KEEPING THE BOARD IN LINE.

I'M CONCERNED ABOUT WHO WILL FILL THIS ROLE, AS MR. METZLER IS SOON LEAVING AND MR. METZLER ON THE RECORD.

JUST A FEW MONTHS AGO, MR. METZLER STOPPED THE REST OF THE BOARD FROM BREAKING THE OPEN DOOR LAW AT THE END OF A WORK SESSION WHEN IT WAS SUGGESTED THAT THE PUBLIC BE REMOVED FROM THE ROOM.

AND THAT IS BREAKING THE OPEN DOOR LAW.

WE WOULD NOT APPROVE OF THIS BEHAVIOR OF STUDENTS OR OF ADMINISTRATORS, AND PLEASE KNOW IT'S NOT ACCEPTABLE FOR THE BOARD AS WELL.

WE ALTHOUGH WE WERE ON FALL BREAK LAST WEEK, THERE WAS NO SHORTAGE OF ACTIVITY.

WE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO REPRESENT THE DISTRICT AT THE INDIANA LATINO EXPO, AND WE GOT TO ENGAGE WITH SEVERAL HUNDREDS OF COMMUNITY MEMBERS.

IT WAS AN ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE.

IT WAS HELD AT THE GLOBAL VILLAGE.

DR. YOUNG AND SEVERAL FAMILIAR FACES STOPPED BY.

IT WAS A FABULOUS TURNOUT AND JUST A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO ENGAGE WITH MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC.

I THINK ONE OF THE MOST COMMON QUESTIONS WE RECEIVED WAS, CAN I GO TO PIKE IF I DON'T LIVE IN PIKE? SO THAT WAS GREAT TO HEAR.

AND PEOPLE PICKED UP INFORMATION ABOUT OUR DISTRICT, A LITTLE PIKE SWAG, AND IT WAS JUST A GREAT EXPERIENCE.

WE WERE WELL REPRESENTED AT DISNEY SPRINGS BY A PIKE ORCHESTRA AND SEVERAL OF OUR ORCHESTRA MEMBERS TRAVELED AND PERFORMED.

THIS IS SOMETHING THAT THEY DO ON A FAIRLY REGULAR BASIS.

THEY'VE BEEN TO PLACES LIKE ITALY.

I BELIEVE THIS IS THEIR SECOND OR THIRD DISNEY TRIP, AND THEY JUST DID A TREMENDOUS JOB.

SOME OF THAT IS AVAILABLE ONLINE AND WE'LL BE SHARING PICTURES IN THE NEAR FUTURE.

WE ALSO WANT TO REMIND YOU THAT WE HAVE PIKE HIGH SCHOOLS PRODUCTION OF THE LITTLE MERMAID COMING UP.

THAT WOULD BE ON NOVEMBER 11TH AND 12TH AT THE PERFORMING ARTS CENTER.

BUT ON NOVEMBER 5TH, FROM 4 TO 5:30 P.M.

AT THE PIKE FRESHMAN CENTER, THEY'RE ACTUALLY HOSTING THE LITTLE MERMAID EXPERIENCE AND IT'S A REALLY INNOVATIVE FUNDRAISER FOR THE SHOW.

AND PARENTS OR FAMILIES ARE INVITED TO BRING THEIR LITTLE ONES AND IT'LL BE A MEET AND GREET SING ALONG AND AN OPPORTUNITY TO TAKE PICTURES WITH THE CAST AND EAT A FEW DELICIOUS TREATS. AND THEN PRIOR TO FALL BREAK, I HAD THE PRIVILEGE OF BEING INVITED OVER TO THE NATHANIEL JONES EARLY LEARNING CENTER, SPECIFICALLY TO MR. MCCLAIN'S CLASSROOM.

YOU WOULD NOT HAVE BELIEVED IT.

YOU WOULD HAVE THOUGHT THAT WE WERE AT A PROFESSIONALLY PLANNED EVENT.

THERE WAS A BALLOON ARCH.

THE TABLES WERE DECKED OUT WITH RUNNERS AND EVERYTHING.

IT WAS A FALL FESTIVAL.

THEY HAD EVERYTHING GOING ON.

THERE WAS COOKIE DECORATING WHERE THE STUDENTS WERE PRACTICING THEIR COORDINATION.

AND HE AND I, THEY WERE SO CREATIVE.

THEY DID ARTS AND CRAFTS, THEY DID PUTT PUTT WITH BROOMS, THEY DID BOWLING, AND THEY HAD A WONDERFUL READING CENTER.

AND IT WAS JUST ABSOLUTELY AMAZING.

THERE WERE SEVERAL PARENT VOLUNTEERS, AND THE STUDENTS JUST HAD A PHENOMENAL TIME.

SO IT WAS A GREAT WAY TO KICK OFF FALL BREAK.

NOW, LIKE MANY GRADUATES, SHE'S NOT HERE LOCAL, SO SHE CAN'T BE HERE IN PERSON.

BUT SHE DID SEND US A VIDEO, SO PLEASE ENJOY.

MY NAME IS KARA CARTER AND I ATTEND HIGH SCHOOL FROM 2010 TO 2014.

WHEN I GRADUATED, PIKE PRETTY MUCH HELPED ME WITH EVERYTHING RELATED, WHICH IS WHY I GOT INTO THE FIELD AND COMPUTER SCIENCE AND AN UNDERGRAD AT MISSISSIPPI VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY, AND THEN FROM IMVU.

WHEN I GRADUATED IN 2018, I CAME HOME AND I STARTED WORKING FOR PRAXAIR TECHNOLOGY AS AN INTERN.

KIND OF FELL IN LOVE WITH THE GAME, WAS GOING TO GO TO GRAD SCHOOL AND DELAYED IT AND STAYED WORKING WITH THE COMPANY FOR THREE YEARS.

AND A YEAR AGO I RELOCATED TO MISSISSIPPI.

SO THE COMPANY THAT I ACTUALLY MOVED THROUGH CITY WAS A TELECOMMUNICATIONS COMPANY CALLED CEASE FIRE AND THEIR HOME COMPANY.

I WAS AN ERP SPECIALIST THERE FOR ABOUT A YEAR AND A HALF AND THEN MOVING HERE.

ABOUT THREE WEEKS AGO, I STARTED AT A NEW COMPANY CALLED CONTINENTAL TIRES OF AMERICA, WHICH IS A GLOBAL TIRE COMPANY.

AND I WILL BE BASICALLY DOING ALL OF THE I.T.

SUPPORT FOR THE INDUSTRIAL PIECES IN THE WAREHOUSE.

SO WE BASICALLY JUST MADE SURE ON THE SHOP FLOOR THAT THE INDUSTRIAL PIECES THAT ARE ON THE SHOP FLOOR IN THE WAREHOUSE ARE LIKE IMAGES.

OKAY, ALL OF THE CODING IS PREPARED, ALL THE RECIPES ARE BASICALLY GOING GOOD.

THE ENGINEERS ARE SUPPOSED TO DO ALL OF LIKE THE CREATION OF THE TOOLS, AND THEN WE'RE SUPPOSED TO BE LIKE THE AUTOMATION DRIVER, IF THAT MAKES ANY SENSE.

SO WE JUST PRETTY MUCH MAKE SURE THAT IT RUNS PROPERLY.

AND PRODUCTION IS OUR AUTOMATION AND OUR ROBOTS ARE LITERALLY SET UP FOR PEOPLE TO RUN THEM, WHICH IS KIND OF COOL.

AND IT ALLOWS YOU TO REALLY HAVE A GREAT IDEA OF THE PROCEDURES THAT ARE IN PLACE FOR THAT PROCESS TO RUN.

SO BASICALLY WE'RE JUST THAT GLUE BETWEEN THE WORKER ON THE SHOP FLOOR AND THE ROBOT TEAMWORK.

THERE ARE SO MANY DIFFERENT ELEMENTS OF IT, BUT PERSONALLY OUTSIDE OF CLASS, I REALLY HELP ME IN MY PROFESSION AND DID MY UNDERGRAD DEGREE THAT I CHOSE.

I WAS A PART OF THE CREATION OF THE NATIONAL SOCIETY OF BLACK ENGINEERS AT NIGHT, AND ME AND THE STUDENTS WHO ALL WERE IN OUR IN SOME STILL FIELD AS OF NOW.

AND IT PREPARES YOU TO BE CONFIDENT, IT PREPARES YOU TO BE COMPETITIVE IN YOUR FIELD, BECAUSE BEING AN AFRICAN-AMERICAN AND A WOMAN MAKES ME A DOUBLE COMPETITIVE IN THE WORKPLACE, RIGHT? I CRAFTED US TO BE THE BEST WHEREVER WE WERE, AND IT GAVE US NO EXCUSES WHETHER THAT WAS IN OUR COURSEWORK OR WHETHER THAT WAS US, YOU KNOW, WORKING THE HARDEST.

I DON'T FEEL LIKE I'M THE BEST BECAUSE I'M THE SMARTEST.

I FEEL LIKE I'M THE BEST BECAUSE I GIVE IT TEN OUT OF TEN AND 100% EVERY TIME I'M IN THE WORKPLACE.

I FEEL LIKE THAT IS THE DEFINITELY ON THE STUDENTS RESPONSIBILITY TO SEE WHAT YOU'RE INTERESTED IN, BUT MAYBE YOU DON'T KNOW THE INTEREST THAT YOU HAVE UNTIL YOU'RE EXPOSED TO

IT. AND I FEEL LIKE THAT WAS MY MOM PUSHING ME TO, YOU KNOW, KIND OF GET OUTSIDE OF MYSELF, IF YOU WILL, AND BE CREATIVE AND BEING OPEN. SO, YOU KNOW, SOMETHING NEW REALLY HELPED ME GET INTO SOMETHING ELSE, WHICH ENDS UP BEING MY PASSION.

SO I FEEL LIKE THE PARENTS DOESN'T HAVE TO BE SUPPORTIVE FOR THE ENTIRE THING TO WORK.

BUT I FEEL LIKE PIKE IS SUCH A GREAT SCHOOL.

THERE ARE SO MANY GREAT THINGS THAT YOU JUST ALMOST HAVE TO FIND YOU OR YOU GOT TO BE OPEN TO IT.

WELL, MISS CARTER MAY BE WATCHING.

IN ADDITION, SHE WORKS RELENTLESSLY TO MAKE THINGS EASIER FOR THE TEACHERS BY ORGANIZING, TESTING MATERIALS, COLLECTING DATA, AND REVIEWING DATA WITH TEACHERS SO THAT THEY CAN BETTER HELP THEIR SCHOLARS IN THE CLASSROOM.

WE THEN HAD A SMALL UPGRADE IN TECHNOLOGY AND LIGHTING IN 2005, AND AS OF DECEMBER LAST YEAR, WE WERE INFORMED THAT THE PARTS AND REPAIRS ARE NO LONGER POSSIBLE JUST BECAUSE THEY DON'T EXIST ANYMORE.

SO WE'RE KEEPING OUR FINGERS CROSSED AND EVERY TIME WE TURN THEM ON, THEY WORK LIKE THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO.

AND SO FAR SO GOOD.

SO YEAH, VENUS DECIDES TO GO OFF IN ITS OWN PATH SOMETIMES, AND SO WE JUST DON'T MENTION VENUS AT ALL.

SADLY, NOBODY MISSES IT.

WE CAN DO SO MUCH MORE WITH THE PLANETARIUM THAN WE'RE DOING NOW.

AND MR. USHER HAS BEEN PHENOMENAL WITH PROGRAMS THAT SHE PUT TOGETHER.

BUT WE WITH THE TRAIN AND WITH THE FACILITY, THE NEW ONE ACTUALLY SAYS THE SKY'S THE LIMIT.

WE CAN DO ALL KINDS OF THINGS MUSIC, ART, HISTORY, GEOGRAPHY, ALL THE DIFFERENT SCIENCES, MATHEMATICS.

AND I WOULD SAY WITHOUT TAKING AWAY FROM THE NUTS AND BOLTS LESSONS OF THE STUDENTS, JUST WALK DOWN THE HALL OR TAKE A SHORT BUS RIDE TO COME THERE AS WELL.

DOES THIS NEW SYSTEM COME WITH A SOUND SYSTEM AS WELL, OR IS THAT SEPARATE?

IT WILL MAKE PIKE'S HIGH SCHOOL'S PLANETARIUM, THE PLANETARIUM IN CENTRAL INDIANA, IF NOT THE STATE OF INDIANA.

SO YOU SAY THE WALL SYSTEM WAS IT DIDN'T THE CHILDREN'S MUSEUM HAVE THAT SAME TYPE OF SYSTEM? THEY HAVE WHAT THEY CALL A IT'S NOT REALLY A PLANETARIUM.

IT'S MORE OF A SHOWCASE.

THEN THEY DO NIGHT SKY PROGRAMS. BUT AS FAR AS BEING ABLE TO DO THE WHOLE SKY, NO, THEY DON'T DO THAT ANYMORE.

IT'S BEEN RESTRUCTURED IN THE PAST FIVE OR SIX YEARS.

IT'S MORE OF AN IMAX TYPE THEATER AND WHICH DOESN'T PROVIDE EVERYTHING THAT YOU HAVE WITH THE DOME THAT COMPLETELY IMMERSES YOU INSIDE OF IT.

YOU'RE MORE STARING AT AROUND THAT SCREEN.

AND BILL AND I, WE WENT TO A CONFERENCE IN THE SPRING AND CAME AWAY WITH THE REALITY THAT OUR PLANETARIUM WAS A SPECTACULAR.

AND WE'VE ALWAYS BEEN BLESSED TO HAVE AMAZING INSTRUCTORS IN THAT PROGRAM.

I WILL ADD, YOU KNOW, ON THE ROMEO AND JULIET AND THE ODYSSEY, YOU KNOW, FOR FOR MY NINTH GRADE UNITS, IT WAS ALWAYS A MUST, YOU KNOW, FOR THE FRESHMAN TEAM TO GO AND TAKE OUR STUDENTS OVER TO THE PLANETARIUM.

AND IT'S A GREAT EXPERIENCE.

AND I DO ENCOURAGE YOU ALL TO VISIT THE PLANETARIUM LIKE LIKE MAKE AN APPOINTMENT TO GO AND SEE, BECAUSE IF YOU'VE NEVER DONE IT BEFORE AND, YOU KNOW, JUST TO BE IN THAT DARK ROOM AND SUDDENLY, YOU KNOW, THEY'RE THERE, THE STARS, THE CONSTELLATIONS AND THAT ABILITY TO SEE THIS MORNING SKY, YOU KNOW WHAT WILL BE TONIGHT.

SKY IS REALLY SOMETHING THAT THE STUDENTS APPRECIATE.

I SAID, WHY DON'T WE INTRODUCE AN AREA THAT WILL GIVE THOSE STUDENTS AN INTRODUCTION TO THE HIGH SCHOOL WITHOUT JUST DUMPING THEM INTO THE ENTIRE HIGH SCHOOL MESS.

AND I THINK WE HAVE SEEN THAT THAT'S BEEN A HUGE SUCCESS AS WE LOOK AT THE ADMINISTRATIVE WING.

I REMEMBER GOING TO NEWCASTLE HIGH SCHOOL WITH.

JIM ROLLINS, WHO WAS THE PRINCIPAL WHO'S PASSED AWAY SINCE THEN.

AND WE TALKED ABOUT WHAT IMPROVEMENTS COULD BE AND WE TALKED ABOUT THE ADMINISTRATION WING OF THAT STAGE WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGH SCHOOL.

SO IF A PARENT NEEDED TO COME IN TO THE ADMINISTRATIVE WING, THEY HAD TO WALK THROUGH THE HIGH SCHOOL TO FIND WHERE IT WAS IN ORDER TO GET THERE.

AND WE TALKED ABOUT THE FACT THAT THAT ENTRY AREA WOULD BE A GREAT PLACE FOR THE ADMINISTRATIVE WING.

SO CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU.

AND THAT WAS JUST CONGRATULATING MR. METZLER 26 YEARS OF SERVICE AND PIKE TOWNSHIP AS A PIKE GRADUATE, I WAS BORN AND RAISED.

MY PARENTS STILL LIVE IN THAT SAME HOUSE.

TODAY, THEY'VE BEEN THERE FOR ABOUT 51 YEARS.

AND SO JUST LIKE YOU, PIKE IS DEAR TO MY HEART.

AND WHEN I SEE OTHER INDIVIDUALS THAT LOVE THIS COMMUNITY AND ARE WILLING TO GIVE TIME AWAY FROM THEIR FAMILIES AND OVER 500 BOARD MEETINGS, NOT INCLUDING WORK SESSIONS AND EXEC SESSIONS, REALLY SPEAKS TO, YOU KNOW, A MODEL OF WHAT I WANT TO DO AND WHAT I WANT TO BE AS A PIKE RESIDENT.

AND HOPEFULLY OTHERS CAN LOOK TO YOUR SERVICE AND SAY, YOU KNOW WHAT, I MAY NOT BE ABLE TO PUT IN 26 YEARS, BUT I CAN GET INVOLVED AND DO SOMETHING BECAUSE THIS COMMUNITY IS IMPORTANT TO ME. SO THANKS FOR BEING THAT MODEL.

WE HAVE HAD THREE EXECUTIVE ASSISTANTS FOR THE SUPERINTENDENTS SINCE BACK TO MAX SHAW.

WOW. INCLUDING MRS. PETTIFORD. AND WE HAVE BEEN SO AMAZINGLY BLESSED WITH THE QUALITY OF PEOPLE WE'VE HAD IN THAT OFFICE AND ALL THAT SHE DOES AND THEY HAVE DONE FOR OUR DISTRICT.

SERVING 26 YEARS ON THE SCHOOL BOARD IS TOUGH, ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU HAVE TO GIVE YOURSELF TO SERVICE IN THE COMMUNITY.

AND THEY JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND.

A LOT OF TIMES THEY DON'T UNDERSTAND A LOT OF TAKE YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT GO IN TO SERVING ON THE BOARD AND THEN YET YOU LET YOURSELF OUT THERE FOR ALL.

AND SO YOU DID IT FOR 26 YEARS.

HATS OFF TO YOU.

AND WE CERTAINLY WISH THAT YOU NOW WE WISH YOU THE BEST.

I WOULD LOOK ACROSS ON FRIDAY NIGHTS AND I SEE YOU PULLING THOSE CHAINS DOWN THE SIDELINE WITH YOU, WHAT YOU HAD, AND YOU DID IT WITH PRIDE.

YOU CERTAINLY, IN FACT, THE LAST FOOTBALL GAME YOU WERE WE WERE AT.

YOU WERE DOWN THERE ON THE CHAINS AND I WAS UP ON THE PLATFORM AND I WAS JUST WATCHING YOU AS YOU SERVE AND EVERYTHING, KNOWING THAT YOU'RE GOING OFF THE BOARD.

SO AGAIN, HATS OFF TO YOU ONE, SWITCH HATS AND SAY THAT I HAD A NOT SCHEDULED FIELD TRIP ON WHEN THE DAY WAS COLD.

COULD HAVE BEEN WEDNESDAY MORNING.

YES, WEDNESDAY MORNING.

PIKE TOWNSHIP WAS IN WAS AT THE FARM OVER ON 96TH STREET AND THEY HAD ABOUT THREE BUSSES.

AND I'M DRIVING DOWN THE STREET IN THE MORNING TIME ON MY WAY TO A MEETING, BUT I COULDN'T RESIST.

I SAW THOSE KIDS GETTING OFF THE BUS AND THEY WERE LINED UP AND I COULDN'T RESIST SPENDING MY WILL AROUND AND GOING TO EAGLE CREEK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.

AND I WAS SO PROUD OF OUR PIKE CHILDREN.

I INTRODUCED MYSELF, TOLD THEM WHO I WAS, AND THE TEACHERS AND PARENTS.

AND CERTAINLY IT WAS A GOOD IT WAS A GOOD FEELING TO CONTINUE TO SEE.

AND SO I WILL SAY, REGARDLESS, AND CONTRARY TO OTHER THINGS THAT PIKE IS HEADING WHAT I SEE IN A GOOD DIRECTION.
