JUST WANTED TO TAKE A COUPLE MOMENTS TO SHARE WITH YOU THAT THE NJELC PALS CLUB, THE PTO, HAS OFFICIALLY BEEN ESTABLISHED AND INCORPORATED.

AND I AM VERY PROUD TO SERVE AS THE PRESIDENT FOR ONE YEAR, AND WE'RE VERY EXCITED ABOUT THE UPCOMING YEAR.

WE MOVE ON TO SPOTLIGHT ON PIKE, SARAH DORSEY.

WONDERFUL TO SEE YOU ALL AGAIN.

WE'VE HAD A VERY BUSY WEEKEND, PIKE TOWNSHIP, BUT IT'S BEEN A GREAT WEEK.

WE HAD A COUPLE OF HUNDRED OF OUR EDUCATORS GATHERED TOGETHER FOR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT THIS WEEK.

WE KICKED IT OFF ON MONDAY WITH DR.

MANUEL SCOTT. HE SPOKE TO EDUCATORS ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF EDUCATION, ABOUT THEM BEING THE SALT OF THE EARTH.

AND THEN HE TALKED ABOUT HE'S AN ORIGINAL FREEDOM WRITER, HIS EXPERIENCE, HOW HE'S OVERCOME HIS STRUGGLES AND ACTUALLY GONE FURTHER THAN I THINK HE HAD EVEN IMAGINED HE COULD GO. AND HOW IMPORTANT OTHER ROLES EDUCATORS PLAYED.

HE REMINDED THEM THAT, YOU KNOW, THERE'S THE SAYING, YOU CAN TAKE A HORSE TO WATER, BUT YOU CAN'T MAKE THEM DRINK.

YOU ACTUALLY CAN MAKE A HORSE THIRSTY BY GIVING THEM SALT AND ENCOURAGE THEM TO BE SALTY.

SO THE EDUCATORS IN ATTENDANCE ABSOLUTELY LOVE THAT.

I FEEL LIKE THEY WERE INSPIRED BY HIS MESSAGE.

FOLLOWING THAT WE HAD A GREAT DAY OF FUN FESTIVITIES AND TEAM BUILDING, AND THEN TUESDAY WE WELCOMED OUR NEW TEACHERS WITH THE ALL DAY SESSION.

TODAY AND WEDNESDAY, WE HAD TEACHERS THROUGHOUT PIKE LEAVE SESSIONS FOR THEIR CONTENT OR GRADE LEVEL AREAS.

SO WE HAD OUR TEACHERS LIKE OUR FIRST GRADE TEACHERS ALL TOGETHER HAVING A LOT OF GREAT TIME TO PLAN, THINK AND PREPARE FOR OUR STUDENTS IN THE UPCOMING SCHOOL YEAR.

WE ALSO HOSTED FRESHMAN ORIENTATION.

MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT WENT EXTREMELY WELL AND WE MAY HAVE HAD A RECORD TURNOUT ESTIMATIONS ARE POSSIBLY 700 FRESHMEN WERE THERE.

IT SOUNDS LIKE WE'VE GOT A LOT OF OUR IDS TAKING CARE OF OUT OF THE WAY.

THE STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITIES AVAILABLE AT PIKE HIGH SCHOOL IN THE FORMS OF CLUBS AND ATHLETICS.

AND IT WAS JUST A GREAT DAY.

IT'S THE FIRST TIME WE'VE BEEN BACK TOGETHER FOR AN EVENT LIKE THAT, PROBABLY IN TWO YEARS.

SO IT JUST IT COULD NOT HAVE GONE BETTER.

OF COURSE, WE ARE HAVING BACK TO SCHOOL.

NOT BACK TO SCHOOL. I'M SORRY. MEET THE TEACHER EVENINGS IN OUR SCHOOLS ALSO THE REMAINING DAYS.

TOMORROW OUR TEACHERS COME BACK FOR THEIR BUILDING DAYS.

AND THEN WE'RE HERE MONDAY AS WELL.

AND THEN TUESDAY WE START THE SCHOOL YEAR.

A LOT OF OUR SCHOOLS ARE DOING REALLY EXCITING THINGS.

SOME ARE DOING ICE CREAM SOCIALS.

ANOTHER I KNOW IS HAVING A SORT OF A SCAVENGER HUNT WHERE YOU'LL GO AROUND TO EACH OF THE GRADE LEVELS TO LEARN SOMETHING ABOUT THE OFFERINGS IN PIKE TOWNSHIP AND OR YOUR CHILD'S GRADE. BUT WHILE YOU'RE THERE, YOU'LL GET TO MEET ALL OF THE TEACHERS.

BUT SPECIFICALLY THEN WHEN YOU'RE IN YOUR CHILD'S GRADE LEVEL, LEARN MORE ABOUT THEIR TEACHERS AND WHAT THEIR DAYS WILL BE LIKE IN PIKE TOWNSHIP.

SO WE COULD NOT BE MORE EXCITED TO START OFF THE SCHOOL YEAR.

YES, MA'AM.

JUST ONE QUESTION.

AND THIS IS PROBABLY NOT YOUR ROLES, BUT ARE THERE EVER ANY SURVEYS TAKEN DURING THOSE ORIENTATION TYPE DAYS TO FIND OUT IF YOU KNOW THE PROCESS PROBABLY WENT VERY SMOOTHLY, MAYBE FROM YOU ALL'S PERSPECTIVE, BUT INPUT FROM THE PARENTS AS TO THINGS THAT COULD HELP IT OR TO SAY JUST THE OVERALL HOW THEY FELT ABOUT THE EXPERIENCE BECAUSE THESE ARE THE NEW KIDS COMING.

RIGHT. SO THEY THEN HAD THIS EXPERIENCE WITH THEIR KIDS AT THEIR OLD SCHOOLS AND SO FORTH THAT THEY WERE VERY COMFORTABLE WITH.

AND SO NOW IT'S A TOTALLY DIFFERENT EXPERIENCE.

SURE. SO I JUST WONDERED IF THERE WAS EVER ANY THOUGHT TO HAVING A SURVEY FOR THAT ORIENTATION SURE. WHAT WE'LL DO IS, IF NOT, THERE'S A GREAT IDEA.

SO FOR FIRST READING THIS WEEK I'M BRINGING POLICY 121301 321301 421301 ALL DEALING WITH STAFF STUDENT RELATIONS. THESE POLICIES ARE INTENDED TO SPECIFICALLY ADDRESS STAFF STUDENT RELATIONS THAT MAY CONSTITUTE CRIMINAL CONDUCT, CHILD ABUSE, NEGLECT, INAPPROPRIATE BOUNDARIES, THOSE TYPES OF THINGS.

POLICY 2260.

AND THOSE ARE NEW POLICIES, NONDISCRIMINATION AND ACCESS TO EQUAL EDUCATION OPPORTUNITY.

THIS IS A REVISED POLICY.

AND WHERE ARE MY NOTES ON THAT ONE? THIS POLICY HAS TO DO WITH IT'S REALLY A TECHNICAL CORRECTION.

IT DEALS WITH REPLACING THE TERM ISTEP WITH STATE MANDATED TESTING PROGRAM.

BASICALLY CHANGE WAS MADE THAT TO KEEP OUR POLICIES CURRENT WITH EXISTING AND FUTURE ASSESSMENT PROGRAMS IN THE STATE OF INDIANA.

AND THEN THE NEXT THREE POLICIES, 6110 GRANT FUNDS, 6114 COST PRINCIPLES, SPENDING, FEDERAL FUNDS POLICY 6325.

THESE ARE ALL REVISED POLICIES AND THESE PARTICULAR POLICIES ALL DEAL WITH REVISED.

AND THEY'RE BEING REVISED TO INCLUDE SOME OF THE LATEST CHANGES TO THE EDUCATION DEPARTMENT GENERAL ADMINISTRATIVE REGULATIONS, SO ALSO KNOWN AS EDGAR.

8330 STUDENT RECORDS THIS IS JUST A TECHNICAL CORRECTION.

AND THAT ONE WAS VERY MINOR, I THINK THAT WAS AGAIN THAT ONE TIED ALSO JUST TO THE ISTEP STATE MANDATES AND JUST CHANGING OF THOSE VERBIAGE TO MAKE SURE OUR POLICIES ALIGNED WITH NEW STATE TESTING GUIDELINES AND TESTS.

8500 REVISED FOOD SERVICE PROGRAM POLICY 8500 HAS BEEN REVISED TO INCLUDE PROHIBITION AGAINST DISCRIMINATION ON THE BASIS OF ANY PROTECTED CLASS AND TO INCLUDE A COMPLAINT PROCEDURE FOR FILING COMPLAINTS OF DISCRIMINATION IN THE FOOD SERVICE PROGRAM.

AND ALL OF THIS IS REQUIRED AS PART OF FEDERAL LAW.

AND THE LAST POLICY, 9150 SCHOOL VISITORS.

THIS IS A REVISED POLICY.

THIS POLICY HAS BEEN REVISED TO PROHIBIT PERSONS WHO ARE ENTERING THAT HAVE OR SHOW UP ON THE STATE SEX VIOLENT OFFENDER REGISTRY OR THE EQUIVALENT FEDERAL REGISTRY AND PERSONS WHO MEET THE DEFINITION OF SERIOUS SEX OFFENDER FROM ACCESSING OUR SCHOOL GROUNDS.

AND ALL OF THIS TIES INTO INDIANA STATE LAW.

SO THESE THINGS ARE ALREADY IN PLACE FOR US.

BUT NOW THESE REVISIONS REALLY UPDATE OUR POLICY TO REFLECT WHAT OUR PRACTICES HAVE ALREADY BEEN.

AND SO I ASKED THEM AND I ASKED IF THEY WOULD WANT TO HOST IT AT OUR LOCATION.

AND SO THEY TOOK US UP ON THE OFFER.

SO THIS IS A FOR THE ENTIRE MARION COUNTY, ANYBODY WHO IS INTERESTED IN RUNNING FOR SCHOOL BOARD, THIS IS INFORMATION, THE BEHIND THE SCENES OF THINGS, WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW.

AND IT'S GOING TO BE TAUGHT IN AND RUN BY THE INDIANA SCHOOL BOARD ASSOCIATION FOR ANYBODY WHO IS INTERESTED IN.

SO THEY CAN GO TO THE INDIANA SCHOOL BOARD ASSOCIATION WEBSITE AND REGISTER FOR THAT ACTIVITY.

BUT I THINK IT'S REALLY, REALLY IMPORTANT THAT THIS IS BEING HELD AT PIKE AND ALSO THAT PEOPLE CAN GET INFORMATION.

THE DAY BEFORE STUDENTS RETURN, AND WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TENTS SET UP AT THE STUDENT PARKING LOT THAT'S JUST SOUTH OF ASC, AND STAFF MEMBERS WILL BE ABLE TO JUST DRIVE THROUGH AND GET SWAG BAGS AND HANDOUTS, JUST APPRECIATION, SHOWING HOW MUCH WE MISS THEM AND HOW GLAD WE ARE THAT THEY'RE BACK AND AND LOOKING FORWARD TO START OF A NEW SCHOOL YEAR SO. AND THEN THANK YOU FOR STEPPING UP AND STEER AND LEADING THE PTO AT NJALC.

I DID HEAR THAT IT WAS ONLY ONE YEAR, SO WE'LL HAVE TO SPEND SOME TIME RECRUITING, BUT WE GOT IT UP AND WE'VE GOT IT GOING AND WE'VE GOT 12 MONTHS TO FIGURE OUT WHO'S GOING TO STEP UP.

SO I THINK THE IDEA OF HAVING A PRESIDENT AND THEN ALWAYS HAVING A VICE PRESIDENT OR PRESIDENT ELECT MIGHT BE ONE WAY THAT WE'LL BE ABLE TO STAY IN THE [INAUDIBLE].

I KNOW THAT'S A LOT OF HEAVY LIFTING.

YOU KNOW, I WANT TO ENCOURAGE ANYONE WHO FEELS THAT THEY WANT TO DO THEIR DUTY TO OUR COMMUNITY TO COME OUT AND LEARN, BE EDUCATED, AND FOR YOU TO GET THE NOD TO BE A BOARD MEMBER, IT'S A GREAT EXPERIENCE.

AND SO I REALLY WANT TO ENCOURAGE ANYONE IN THE PUBLIC TO DO THAT.

ALSO TODAY, I TALKED, I HAD A CHANCE, DR.

YOUNG, AND TO THE REST OF OUR STAFF, I HAD A CHANCE TO VISIT THE GLOBAL VILLAGE WITH MARY CLARKE.

GREAT PLACE RIGHT IN PIKE TOWNSHIP GOT A CHANCE TO VISIT THE MUSEUM.

AND SO I WOULD REALLY ENCOURAGE IF THERE ARE FIELD TRIPS FOR OUR CHILDREN AND OUR STUDENTS, I REALLY WOULD ENCOURAGE THEM TO THINK ABOUT THE GLOBAL VILLAGE AS YOU LOOK AT THE INTERNATIONAL CULTURE AND WHAT A GREAT PLACE I FELT I WAS SOMEWHERE ELSE.

AND SO REALLY, THEY'RE HAVING THEY'RE TAKING DOWN.

SO IF ANYONE CAN GET OVER THERE BY SATURDAY AT FIVE, THEY'RE TAKING DOWN THEIR JUNETEENTH EXPOSITION. AND I REALLY WOULD ENCOURAGE YOU TO GO.
